How to sign up for SpringFest 2021 freebie
Spring has sprung at Lowe’s.
The home improvement chain’s SpringFest event officially starts Thursday and includes the springtime promotion of free Garden-to-Go project kits, which can be picked up curbside every Thursday in April.
Advance registration at Lowes.com is required to get the family-friendly themed kits and opens up a week prior to the giveaway. At midnight ET Thursday, registration opens for a Mystery Garden Pinata with mystery seed packets that will be handed out on April 15.
Consumers are advised to sign up early as kits are available while supplies last.
“A limited number of kits are available for each experience and this extremely popular event drove more traffic than we ever expected,” Lowe’s said in an April 1 tweet after registration for the first round of kits was full. “We’re taking steps to ensure a smoother registration experience throughout SpringFest.”

Lowe’s told USA TODAY that if a customer’s closest store is “sold out” of kits, they should search for availability at nearby locations.
The drive-thru event is similar to what Lowe’s did with curbside trick-or-treating in October, which also required signing up.
In past years, Lowe’s has held a “Spring Black Friday” sale, but amid the COVID-19 pandemic has been handling sales and events differently, said Marisa Thalberg, Lowe’s executive vice president, chief brand and marketing officer.
In addition to free gardening kits, Lowe’s, whose headquarters are based in North Carolina, says it’s offering deals, product demonstrations and a campaign called “Hometrip,” which offers advice on how to turn homes into “destinations.”

“Spring just feels so metaphoric this year. Sort of this coming out of our winter, literally and figuratively,” Thalberg said in an interview with USA TODAY. “We’re already seeing that interest starting to really build quickly as the weather is starting to get warmer in different parts of the country.”
Curbside activity kits: How to sign up
Registration for the free Garden-to-Go kits began April 1 on Lowes.com for the first kit, which will be available for curbside pick-up on April 8. The “family-friendly activity kits” can be reserved on the website a week in advance, while supplies last.
Here is the weekly schedule for the remaining kits:
- April 15: Lowe’s Mystery Garden Pinata with mystery seed packets.
- April 22: For Earth Day, Lowe’s will give out 500,000 tree saplings
- April 29: “Lowe’s Butterfly Quest” helps families create a butterfly garden.
